It reminds me of Young Marble Giants' Clossal Youth. A very spacious and minimalistic album which actually sounds full and rewarding after a couple of spins.bobbloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10221997102897106322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534509012046591314.post-47033798167327804282009-09-09T22:03:06.169+01:002009-09-09T22:03:06.169+01:00I've just had my first listen through of The x...I've just had my first listen through of The xx and am having a similar underwhelmed reaction Perhaps it's a grower. I listened to it through once and, when it didn't amaze me, set it aside. I will have to get it out again.John Selfhttp://theasylum.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534509012046591314.post-86968304034281211662009-09-09T12:52:20.850+01:002009-09-09T12:52:20.850+01:00The album's pretty good. There are some weak songs in the beginning but it picks up nicely by London Girls and there are a few sonic surprises on the way..

Soundwise they are a more dancier version of TVOTR - a cheap comparison but it's an inevitable one.

At the moment I'm hooked on The xx album. Simply brilliant. It's fresh and genuinely exciting! It reminds me of a more mellow Beck crossed with Schneider TM, with a bit of a jazz chucked in for good measure.bobbloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10221997102897106322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534509012046591314.post-65374686440808599212009-09-08T10:17:32.796+01:002009-09-08T10:17:32.796+01:00It's not really like The Seldom Seen Kid speci...It's not really like The Seldom Seen Kid specifically but with the heartfelt male vocals, romantic musicality and serious lyrics it's a bit too similar to Elbow to win. This year's shortlist has lots of female artists and I reckon it will go to one of them.William Rycrofthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15056188088340973039noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534509012046591314.post-7598386370578722362009-09-08T10:07:45.887+01:002009-09-08T10:07:45.887+01:00I downloaded this from iTunes on the recommendatio...I downloaded this from iTunes on the recommendation of Scott Pack. Unfortunately when I thought I was burning it to CD, I was actually burning Conditions by The Temper Trap - which is a bloody good album as it happens. So, er, I haven't listened to Sweet Billy Pilgrim yet, though did note the crackly atmospherics of the opener.

Are you saying it's like The Seldom Seen Kid?John Selfhttp://theasylum.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
