The only trouble is finding a copy. There are definitely some indie bookshops with copies, Twitter might be a good place to make an appeal. It just sounds so innovative. I am similarly protective of mine...and interesting to note that Ware, speaking on the NY Times book podcast, came up with Building Stories whilst he was working on something else...we can only hope. He can't top his summation of the form? Can he?!?Lee Monksnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534509012046591314.post-1988612554153764382012-12-13T12:17:35.789+00:002012-12-13T12:17:35.789+00:00I recently moved house Lee and was understandably ...I recently moved house Lee and was understandably concerned about the transit of my copy of Building Stories and so wrapped it up all safe and snug in the linen box for its journey. When I unpacked the van at the other end one of the first things I did was to make sure that the box was still safe and sound in its cocoon and satisfied that it was I set about unpacking the rest. Then of course we entered the period of living amongst boxes, unpacking books onto any old shelf and setting about the thousand and one jobs that needed doing. About a week later I opened up the linen chest to see that things had been moved about and that my baby was nowhere to be seen. I didn't want to panic, it must be within the four walls somewhere, but I kept mentioning to my wife that I couldn't find my rather precious box of graphic genius and maybe she could remember where she'd put it when unpacking the chest. Almost a month went by before I finally cracked and betrayed with the desperation in my voice that I REALLY needed to find the box. That evening it was there on the bed and I hugged it to my chest once again. A masterwork, as you say.William Rycrofthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15056188088340973039noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534509012046591314.post-73978875954279074562012-12-13T11:51:11.430+00:002012-12-13T11:51:11.430+00:00What to say, really? My friend, who is Mr Poindexter when it comes to graphic novels, had a similar reaction to yours: he refused to read through it too quickly. And when it arrived, he tells me he similarly clutched the box to his chest and said aloud, 'He's done it!' - this without checking the contents. Which soon enough proved his immediate response correct. There was some kind of delight at play here that Ware had reached some kind of artistic apex. I think he has: it really is the greatest example of its type, and Building Stories really has set a new benchmark.Lee Monksnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534509012046591314.post-18528741778168059412012-10-09T14:13:49.307+01:002012-10-09T14:13:49.307+01:00I didn't, no.
