This is why vast sums of money are spent on design and marketing and why most self-published books look appalling and you wouldn't want to pick them up. Whatever it is that makes you read Bakker it will be worth it. I actually prefer The Twin but if you like The Detour then you'll still have that joy to discover.William Rycrofthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15056188088340973039noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534509012046591314.post-90937053347432254272012-02-15T14:39:54.386+00:002012-02-15T14:39:54.386+00:00This sounds superb Will. I do love 'rural' tales as I call them in remote countryside and this sounds brilliant. I had never heard of it, or the author... ordered from the library already!Simon (Savidge Reads)http://savidgereads.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534509012046591314.post-40335205546686665672012-02-08T09:43:28.845+00:002012-02-08T09:43:28.845+00:00There is something slightly spooky about it isn...There is something slightly spooky about it isn't there but rather than that being in a supernatural sense it is very much linked to the physical and mental state of the woman. My recent review of Julia by Otto de Kat highlighted another Dutch novel that managed to take a quiet approach to a potentially melodramatic scenario.William Rycrofthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15056188088340973039noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534509012046591314.post-39383537787960329912012-02-02T22:02:38.540+00:002012-02-02T22:02:38.540+00:00I loved The Twin too and am looking forward to rea...I loved The Twin too and am looking forward to reading this one. If you're interested in reading more Dutch novels, I highly HIGHLY recommend Joe Speedboat by Tommy Wieringa. Maybe the best novel I read the year I read it, which was 2010, I think. Am now curious about the Dutch novels mentioned in the above post...Lindanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7534509012046591314.post-79936828010995919152012-02-02T15:46:19.687+00:002012-02-02T15:46:19.687+00:00Thank you William.

Cees Nootabum's Rituals, Herman Koch's The Dinner and Siegfried Lenz's A Minute's Silence (OK, so he's German :) Anyway..
