I enjoy your webcasts, like a casual, intelligent conversation with a fellow book enthusiast. I admit to checking in every few days. I read widely among novelist and have latched on to but a few I search out, but J. Ferris is among those. I liked both of his previous books, if anything The Unnamed a bit more - the story could so easily have drifted into tragi-comedy, yet he held the reins firm, and there's something impressive about that. I'll get his latest in short order..gotta say, though, P. Roth has proven disappointing to me, so I'm not as sure I won't Ferris to man the helm!.. So, all's to say, keep up the good work! (hammering btw wasn't so bad in background, at least for the listener)

Thank you for the kind words Mike and I'm glad the vlog is coming across in the right way. I too was impressed by The Unnamed and certainly don't feel a compulsion to go back and read the debut. As for Roth, which of his have you read? I always worry when people say they don't like him that they've simply read some of his less good books. Anyway, he's not to all tastes. Thanks again.
In truth I haven't given up on Roth. I read American Pastoral, The Ghost Writer and Everyman. Am Pastoral I liked marginally. I guess Portnoy's Complaint and, maybe Sabbath's Theater were two I'd like to read. What of his have you finished off? Two of your countrymen, McEwan and Ishiguro, are among my favorites up to now.
If you're ambivalent after reading American Pastoral and The Ghost Writer then I'm not sure much else is going to sway you. I've read all the later stuff from about Operation Shylock onwards and a few older books. Sabbath's Theatre and American Pastoral are among my favourite books so give the former a chance. Amazingly I have yet to read Portnoy!
