I find sparsely leaved trees in winter very haunting. I have two paintings which show similar images, one by Michael Clark of the Tuileries in Paris, which look desolate but still beautiful when shed of their coverage, and the other by Rob McCaulay in shimmering colours which gives the trees an almost magical forest appearance. I'll send you photos of them if you like.
